Finally got myself a dedicated server!

Well I finally switched over to a dedicated server instead of this shared hosting nonsense.  I didn’t expect things to get to the point where I would need to switch over but that day has cometh.

I would encourage any of you who are on a shared account to upgrade to a VPS or dedicated server if you plan on being in this business for some time.  Its much easier to start out right instead of have to migrate a bunch of stuff over and adapt to the new environment.

I noticed that when I started pushing some really large amounts of traffic, my shared account just couldn’t cut it.  I was getting load times that were much slower than before and we all know that is something we DO NOT want in our industry.

I also was having trouble running certain php scripts because of restrictions in place at my current host.  I would run scripts and they just didn’t run, or would produce errors.  Now that I am on a dedicated server, everything is running smooth.

Anyways, I would love to hear any stories of why you have switched over to a better solution…and how it went for you.

On which hosting you was and from where choose dedicated server to get?

I want to get off the godaddy, don’t like them personally.

I had a reseller account at Hostgator. I would honestly say they are a pretty good host if you don’t need the resources a dedicated can provide.

I know others who use godaddy and I have checked out their backend/control panel…it didn’t impress me at all.

The dedicated server I went with is actually through an acquaintance I know.

If you are interested in reliable hosting with a decent price, get ahold of me, I can offer you a good package. If you don’t want that, definately checkout Hostgator.

I used SL Host - they were good for VPS, and had great email-only support. I didn’t need it and didn’t use it much so I discontinued shortly therafter.

Lately, my HostMonster sharing account was done for about 24 hours, which sucked, so I definitely dont want to risk it again with, as you said, the “shared hosting nonsense.”
I’m shopping for dedicated, but I’ll do it on a JIT basis.

Yeh thats one plus about hostgator, they have live support….so when I would need them at 3am when I was working they would actually be there.

Not having some sort of phone or live chat would kind of suck if you do a lot of work online…
